Incorporate QR Codes into Your SMS Strategy: Grow Your Contact List and Create Engaging, Interactive Advertisements

QR Codes can simplify SMS opt-ins by allowing customers to scan and send a pre-populated message to your business. When scanned, the QR code opens the messaging app with your business number and a keyword already filled in, making it easy for users to join your SMS list. You can use QR codes in marketing materials, product packaging, or direct mail to streamline customer interaction. By incorporating clear CTAs and compliant language, you can boost engagement while adhering to privacy laws.

By scanning the QR code, customers can instantly opt into your SMS campaigns, making the process simple and frictionless. This method enhances engagement and is a great way to grow your contact list, especially when incorporated into physical or digital advertisements. The seamless transition from scan to subscription encourages participation and creates a more interactive experience for users.

QR code to text message: How does it work?

You can enhance your advertisements—such as fliers, menus, or posters—by including a QR code that automatically generates a pre-filled text message. When a customer scans the code with their phone’s camera, the message will appear in their messaging app, complete with your business’s phone number in the “To” field. All they need to do is hit "Send" to join your text message contact list, making it a seamless way to grow your SMS audience and boost engagement.

When they send that keyword to your business number, they will join your subscription list. The keyword can be linked to your Text-2-Join, Text Survey, Text-2-Win, Text-2-Trivia campaigns.(link to respective pages)

How to use QR code in your Marketing assets (Call to action)

For compliance purposes, your business must ensure that your messaging platform includes a clear Call-to-Action (CTA) when asking customers to text your business number. The CTA informs customers about what they can expect after opting in, which is crucial in preventing unsolicited messages and ensuring legal compliance.

See below for an example Flier which incorporates both opt-in methods to your SMS marketing campaign. Users either can text the keyword or scan the QR code.

Make sure your QR code opt-in is compliant with carrier and legal guidelines by including a clear disclaimer. You can use and modify this language in your advertisements:

"By scanning this QR code and sending the pre-filled text, You agree to receive automated messages. This agreement isn’t a condition of any purchase. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to end or HELP for help. Msg & Data rates may apply. Terms and Privacy Policy can be found at zenspa.com/terms"

This ensures transparency and compliance while making it easy for customers to opt in.
